Jan 2 Festive Thingy-Me-Bobs And All That Gubbins: A Happy New Year to all our readers out there in cyber space. Florence tennis club are currently developing a website that will inform members of all the latest tennis news. Results 2003 and Tables 2003 are available to download in Excel form.
Sep 14 Knypersley C Complete League/Cup Double: Knypersley C added the Dale Cup to their League Division 3 title with a 3-1 victory over Florence E in the final. All final results and tables for 2003 are now up to date.
Aug 16 Tied At The Top - Who Takes The Honours???: Draycott A and Florence A have finished the campaign locked at the top of mens division 1 with 54 points. Likewise in Divsion 2 Florence B and Knypersley B ended up level on 46 points. Draycott A and Florence B have won one more match than their rivals, so it may be that these two teams take the respective titles - don't quote me on that though!!!
Aug 12 Season Reaches Climax: With just 1 week to go here are the possible permutations for success and failure:
Div 1: Florence A will win the title if they manage to take 3½ points against Endon A. Draycott B and Basford A are down.
Div 2: Knypersley B will be crowned champions should they earn 3 points against Endon B. Westlands and Stone B are doomed.
Div 3: Two points against Abbey View C will give Knypersley C the silverware. Basford D were relegated at Easter and it looks like FR B will join them.
Div 4: Draycott C have already captured the title with a game to spare.
Aug 2 Draycott C Win Promotion to Div 3: Draycott C ensured a return to Division 3 with a comprehensive win over Endon D. Elsewhere, Florence A will win Division 1 if they capture 7½ points from their remaining two games and Knypersley B could pip long time leaders Florence B to the Division 2 title.
Jul 26 Promotion For Florence and Knypersley: Florence B secured their place in the top flight for next season with a win over Westlands. Despite losing, Knypersley C clinched promotion to Division 2 and they meet Florence C next week in a match that could settle the destination of the title.
Jul 19 Clash of Titans on Wednesday: Draycott A and Florence A meet this week and the result could go a long way to determining who collects this years mens division 1 title. Elsewhere Florence B can clinch promotion to the elite if they earn a good win and Knypersley C need only 2 more points to secure a place in Division 2. At the basement Basford A and Basford D are both doomed in Division 1 and 3 respectively, whilst it is not looking good for both Stone B and Westlands in Division 2.

Jul 14 Basford Ladies Claim Title: Basford ladies clinched the ladies division 1 title with a 4-0 victory over Abbey View B to finish ½ point ahead of Stone. In the mens division Draycott A and Florence A continue to do battle for the 1st division title with Florence B and Knypersley B on course for promotion to the mens elite. Knypersley C and Florence C seem certain to be promoted to Division 2 whilst Draycott C and Stone C are favourites for glory in Division 4.
Jul 6 Ladies Division 1 Final Week Shoot-out: Basford and Stone go into the final week of the ladies season locked together at the top of the table with 27½ points. Basford have what appears to be the easier fixture as they entertain rock bottom Abbey View B, whilst Stone have a tricky trip to Abbey View A to negotiate.

Jun 13 Not Arf Bad To Be A Member of Florence!!!: With half of the season complete, Florence sit on top of 3 out of the 4 mens divisions, have a team placed 2nd in the only mens division that they don't lead, head the ladies 2nd division and are 2nd in the mixed division. Basford ladies are on course for the ladies division 1 championship, and in the process are showing the Basford blokes how it should be done, who are having an exceedingly torrid time - their A and D teams have a combined record of played 15 lost 15. Rumours that they are to change their name to "Sunderland" are as yet unconfirmed.
Jun 11 Florence A Open Up Slender Lead: Florence A have opened up a 1½ point lead over Draycott A at the top of Division 1 as the league develops into a two horse race.
Jun 1 Draycott Clear in Mixed: Draycott are wll ahead in the mixed division having won all of their opening 5 games. Basford sit on top of Ladies Division 1, with 4 wins from 4 and both Florence B and Knypersley C already look certainties for promotion to mens divisions 1 and 2 respectively. Jun 1 Dizzy Heights For Bucknall: Bucknall A moved into 2nd spot in Division 2, whilst Bucknall B edged clear in Division 4 following the latest round of results. Notorious for doing, ...well how shall we put it, errr crap, this sudden upstart in fortunes has been a complete shock to the system. No doubt, normal service will be resumed shortly. May 24 Abbey View A Start Well in Ladies 1: Reigning champions Abbey View A have made a good start to their defence of their title, unbeaten after 3 games, they are just ahead of Basford and Stone. May 17 Florence A Pile Pressure on Draycott A: Florence A haven't dropped a point yet in 4 matches as they trail leaders Draycott A, who have played one game more, by just 2 points. More good news for Florence in Division 2 as their B team are streaking away at the top. May 10 Men 2 Very Tight: Florence B have opened up a useful lead at the top of men's division 2, but the league promises to be a tight one with just 1 point separating 4th place from 9th. Draycott A have dropped just half a point from 4 games and head Division 1, and Knypersley C are top of Division 3.
May 5 Ladies To Kick Off on Tuesday: The ladies season gets underway on Tuesday, which will see the introduction of exciting end of season play offs to determine promotion and relegation.
May 3 Endon A Lead Division 1: Endon A lead the way in mens division 1, closely followed by Draycott A and Knypersley A. April 21 Stone C - Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!!!!!: Having only days earlier announced that Stone would not be entering a C team in Mens Division 4, it now transpires that they will be taking part after all. The phrase "couldn't organise a booze up in a brewery" springs to mind - come on fellas, sort it out!!! Anyway the award for the Hokey Cokey 2003 goes to Stone C.
April 19 Thumping Wins For Endon A and Florence A: The first week of the season saw big wins for Endon A and Florence A in Mens Division 1. For the opening results of the new season, visit 2003 Season News.
April 13 Stone C Pull Out of Division 4: Oh bugger. Having just entered all the fixtures for the coming season, Stone announce that their C team will not now compete in Mens Division 4. Bucknall B's opening match of the season was due to be against Stone C, meaning that for one unnamed member of Bucknall, the pre-match ritual of sausage and chips will have to wait for at least another week.
April 13 Better Late Than Never!!!: With just a couple of days to go to the start of the 2003 campaign the fixtures for the coming season have now been bunged onto the site. Start dates for each of the respective leagues are:
  • Men: 16th April
  • Ladies: 6th May
  • Mixed: 26th April

February 9 2003 AGM - Florence Tennis and Bowling Club: This years AGM will take place at Florence Tennis and Bowling Club, on Tuesday 18th February with a kick off time of 8.00pm. The meeting will be followed by the awards presentation and buffet.
