|Aug 16||End of Season News: As the season has now been completed the champions are confirmed as Ladies: Basford; Men 1: Draycott A; Men 3: Stone C; Men 4: Alsager FR B. Two teams finished level on points at the top of Men 2 and the Mixed leagues, and although I know this situation was discussed at the AGM, I have to admit to not paying too much attention at the time, and am a bit unclear as to what happens next.|
|Aug 6||Division 4 Promotion Confirmed: Florence E and Alsager FR B confirmed their promotion to Division 3 this week, whilst Draycott C need just ½ point to secure promotion to Division 2.|
|Aug 1||Ups and Downs:
With just two weeks of the season left here's a run down of the ups and downs. |
Ladies: A 3 way battle for the Championship with Basford, Abbey View A and Draycott all in with a chance of winning it.
Men 1: Draycott A confirmed as champions, Florence B and Stone A looking like going down.
Men 2: Bucknall A and Endon B promoted, Florence D down and Boro B almost certain to join them.
Men 3: Stone C up, Draycott C favourites to join them, Bucknall B down, Abbey View C or D likely to follow.
Men 4: Alsager Fields Road A and Florence E on course for promotion.
|Jul 31||Bucknall A Promoted To Elite: Bucknall A have won promotion to Division 1 with Endon B almost certain to join them. Mens division 3 is still tight with 5 teams still in with a chance of claiming a promotion slot, alongside Stone C who look set for the title.|
|Jul 23||Draycott A Home And Dry: Draycott A should be crowned Mens 1 Champions next week, after another dominant season has seen them stroll to the title. Bucknall A edged out Endon B in the top of the table clash in Division 2, but the championship is still up for grabs.|
|Jul 18||Stone C Set For Division 2: Stone C need just 3 more points from their remaining 3 games to clinch promotion to Division 2. Elsewhere, Abbey View B, Florence B and Stone A are battling to avoid relegation to Division 2 and they still have to play one another. Alsager FR A and Florence E are on course for promotion to Division 3 although Penkhull are making a late charge.|
|Jul 17||Cup Draws 2004: Sporting Trophies and Dale Cup draws have been sent in by Dave Bennett and the draws can be found in the Cups section.|
|Jul 11||Ladies League Still Tight: Just two points separate Abbey View A, Draycott and Basford as the ladies league looks destined to go the distance. Stone C have opened up a gap at the top of Men 3, whilst in the Mixed, Draycott and Abbey View A have finished level at the top on 24 points. Question now is, who are the champions? What happens next is anybody's guess - is the title decided by number of wins, fewest defeats, results between the teams during the season or is their a play off??? If there's a play off where is it played, how is the venue decided, is a 20p piece used or a pound coin, who spins the coin, or is it a 2 legged affair, on what day and what time do these take place, who makes this decision etc.|
|Jul 9||Men 2 Championship Decider??: Bucknall A and Endon B have pulled away in Division 2 and barring any hiccups seem set for promotion to the elite. They meet in a couple of weeks time in a match that could determine the championship.|
|Jul 5||Abbey View - Mixed Champions???: Unless Draycott managed to beat Florence 4-0, then Abbey View are the mixed champions for 2004. Unfortunately the tables won't be in this week's local rag, my fault, due to the fact that I was watching the ladies singles final at Wimbledon and then managed to wangle myself free tickets and entrance to the marquees for the mens final!|

|Jun 26||Rain Hampers City & Suburban League: It's not just Wimbledon that gets disrupted because of rain, the City & Suburban League suffered as a result of bad weather this week with many matches drawn. Both the Mixed and Ladies leagues are heading for a gripping climax with three teams looking to capture the championships.|
|Jun 19||Florence E Head Division 4: Florence E have stormed to the top of Division 4 having dropped just ½ point in the last three games.|
|Jun 13||Half Way Stage Reached:
With the mid point of the season now reached here's a review of the campaign so far - exciting finishes
beckon in all Divisions. |
Ladies: A 3 way battle for the Championship with Basford, Abbey View A and Draycott all level on 20½ points.
Men 1: Draycott A may as well be handed the trophy now, 6 points clear already and well on course for their 5th successive title. Down at the bottom, Abbey View B look certain to fall, but there could be a tense battle to see who joins them with 3 teams scrapping it out.
Men 2: After many a seasons spent munching chocolates, searching for car keys and languishing near the wrong end of the table, Bucknall A, inspired by City and Suburban stalwart and team captain, Barrie Seargeant, find themselves enjoying life in the fast lane at the top of Menís Division 2 and in grave danger of gaining promotion to the elite. There's a 4 way battle though, with just two points separating Bucknall A, Endon B, Alsager FR A and Knypersley B. At the foot of the table Florence D and Boro B are doomed.
Men 3: With just 3 points between Stone C, Draycott C, Westlands and Stone B this Division also looks like going to the wire. Down at the bottom, Bucknall B have about as much chance of staying up as Martina Navratilova does of winning this years Wimbledon.
Men 4: Alsager Fields Road A have opened up a useful gap at the top of Division 4, with Florence E and Penkhull battling it out for the second promotion spot.
|Jun 6||Three Way Tussle in Mixed League: Draycott, Florence and Abbey View are involved in a scrap at the top of the Mixed league with just 1 point separating the three clubs. Elsewhere it's tight at the top of Mens 2, 3 and 4 with a number of clubs fighting it out for promotion.|

|May 23||Ladies Division Close: Draycott, Abbey View A, Basford and Endon are battling for the title in the Ladies Division, with Florence and Draycott going well in the Mixed League. Two points separate the top five teams in Men 3 with Alsager FR B taking command of Division 4|
|May 21||Week 6 News: It's a familiar story at the top of Men 1 with Florence A, Knypersley A and Draycott A setting the pace. Bucknall A continue to defy odds as they recorded their 5th win of the season, prompting certain team players to contemplate retirement should the unthinkable happen, i.e. promotion.|
|May 16||Tight At The Top: Both Mens Division 3 and 4 look as though they could be tight affairs if early results are anything to go by with a number of teams jockeying for the top two promotion spots.|
|May 14||Bucknall A Still Going Strong: Bucknall A continued their good start to the season, winning their 4th game of the season to move to the top of Division 2. Results are flowing in at a reasonably steady pace, the one notable exception been the Ladies Division. Now at the risk of receiving some flak.....Ladies, put down your iron, finish doing the dishes and making a cup of tea and instead send in the tennis results!!!|
|May 9||Week 4 Results Coming In: Knypersley A and Florence A are going well in Division 1, as are Abbey View A who have made an encouraging start. Division 2 looks like been tight, with good starts for Florence C, Bucknall A and Alsager FR A. Berryhill have withdrawn from Division 4 and all their results have been expunged.|
|May 2||Draycott Ladies Going Well: Draycott ladies have started the season well gaining 10 points from a possible 12 to head the Division. Knypersley A have also made a good start in Division 1 as the leagues begin to take shape.|
|Apr 25||Stone And Alsager FR Head Div 3 and 4: Thanks to the sterling work of fellow City and Suburban colleagues the majority of results for the first two weeks are now in. |Apr 23||Florence A and Bucknall A Off To Flyers: Florence A and Bucknall A have got their campaigns off to a good start, winning both their opening matches in Divisions 1 and 2 respectively. The League Tables have been updated and results for each division can be found in the usual place.|

|Mar 26||Fixtures 2004 Uploaded: Fixtures for the new season have now been added to the site. Last years details can now be found in the archive section.|
|Feb 17||Bucknall Scoop Fair Play Award!!!: Forget the debates on how many ladies leagues there would be, or how championships would be decided in future seasons, the main talking point of this years AGM was the news that during the 2003 campaign, only one team had managed to successfully field teams that didn't consist of unregistered/illegal players or "ringers", and hence adhere to the rules at all times - BUCKNALL. Unfortunately there was no trophy to mark this magnificent achievement of fair play, and so in 2004 the Bucknall squad will be proudly kitted out in their new tennis shirts, complete with the logo "Crap But Fair"!!! Fixtures for the new season will appear on the site very shortly ... probably a week before it starts.|
|Jan 24||2004 AGM - Florence Tennis and Bowling Club: This years AGM will take place at Florence Tennis and Bowling Club, on Tuesday 10th February with a kick off time of 8.00pm. The meeting will be followed by the awards presentation and a bit of snappin.|
